Current Volunteer Opportunities
The Community Collabs “Catwalk” project needs you!
Over the past 2 months, your PBPCA has been working with U of C Students of the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape (SAPL), to create a neighborhood enhancement project. Specifically, the project is a neighborhood enhancement project, designed to improve the appearance and safety of the pedestrian walkway connecting Palliswood Road and 90th Avenue and a Calgary Transit bus stop.
The project: consists of 3 new painted wood-framed planter boxes, approximately 8’long x1.3’ wide x 1.3’ high, located on the existing grassed strip along the west edge of the walkway. The planter boxes have been constructed by Cal Melrose, a long-time volunteer member of the PBPCA-BOD. The planters will be filled with potting soil, flowers and attractive plants recommended by the students. The walkway between Palliswood Road and the existing acoustic barrier will be designed and painted by a professional “muralist” Cory Bugden, an experienced designer and painter in Calgary. Mr. Bugden will also paint the planter boxes prior to filling them with soil. Unobtrusive LED lights are to be attached to the planter boxes, or will be “ground-mounted” depending on conditions. The lights will be installed by PBPCA.
We are looking for interested and willing community residents (possessing “green thumbs”) to plant and maintain one, or all of the 3 planters. You will be given a budget of $100 to purchase flowers and plants recommended by the SAPL students from a recommended Garden Store. Maintenance consists of watering and weeding on an as-needed basis. Removal of plants will be required, at the end of each season.
If you are interested in lending a hand over the next few weeks, please email “Jill” at email@example.com and we’ll arrange to meet to discuss project details.
Thank you!...and carry-on gardening!
